On Saturday, our office hosted an Open House for the Harleysville community. We gave away free hot dogs, sodas and water. We also had a moon bounce, ring toss and mini golf set up for the kids. We gave away American flags and patriotic stickers. Then the Harleysville Country Fair Days Parade went by our office on Main Street, so everyone at our open house had a perfect viewing spot for the parade.
We gave away 650 hot dogs! At most times, the platters were overflowing with hot dogs and no one had to wait for one. However, there was a moment or two where the platters were empty and the agents from our office were busy grilling and making up fresh platters. But we never ran out of hot dogs, we grilled them and served them until the crowd was satisfied and had as many as they wanted.
Would you believe we had a man complain that he had to wait for a hot dog?
(And I assure you his wait was less than a minute.)
So yes, we had a grown man complain very loudly about having to wait for a hot dog. It definitely irritated some people nearby and a woman challenged the man and said, "But don't you think this is nice that these people do all this and give away free food?" His response...
"Well hot dogs are about the cheapest thing you could possibly give away."
So, even on a beautiful Saturday morning with the fun and sense of community surrounding this guy, he still found reason to be miserable. Moral of the story.... You can't please everyone.
