An innate need for all, references to the importance of safe and loving homes can be found in the bible:

Proverbs 24:3-4 - By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Psalm 127:1 - Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 84:2-4 - Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord.

Isaiah 32:18 - My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

Hebrews 13:2 - Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

1 Samuel 25:6 - And thus you shall greet him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.’

Psalm 122:7 - Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!

2 Corintians 5:1 - 10 - For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

1 Kings 8:13 - I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.
