This is from an email sent out on Thursday, October 13, 2011 by the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department:
Attention Residents,
Local Townships have been experiencing numerous DAYTIME Burglaries of residents homes. All of these have occurred during the day. The actors have made entrance into the residence by prying locked or unlocked windows to the rear of the residence. The actors enter the residence in areas that are secluded. Some victims back windows were smashed or window air conditioners were removed. Residents with Ranch style or Cape Cod homes have been targeted. Actors have also entered through screened in rear porches. The master bedroom is ransacked and jewelry and laptop computers are taken. Can we please remind you all to keep an eye on what is going on in your neighborhoods.
Please report suspicious vehicles or persons in your neighborhoods immediately to the police. Do not delay in calling the police. A U-Haul van has been seen in the area of these past burglaries. Also a green older Honda, possibly an Accord, was seen parked in a victims driveway occupied by a white or a hispanic male. On one of the lastest burglaries a white Ford pick up was used by the actors. If you do not recognize the vehicle from your neighborhood, call the police immediately for them to respond and investigate the vehicle.
How do we combat these burglaries? We make sure all first and second floor windows are locked at all times. We use our alarms if we have one. We lock our vehicles in our driveways. We hide our valuable jewelry in our house. We keep an eye on each others property when our neighbors are at work. We report suspicious vehicles and persons immediately. You are NOT bothering us it is our job. We keep our garage doors closed. We do not open our front doors to strangers.
