With Valentine's Day swiftly approaching, here are a few romantic date night ideas in and around Montgomery County PA. Whether you spend a lot or a little, the most important thing is taking time to be alone together and doing something out of the ordinary. Leave plenty of time to talk and laugh together.
From classic bar food to ultra-fine dining, you can head in any direction and find great food. We are trying 19 Bella in Cedars this weekend, but some of our favorites are Joseph Ambler Inn, William Penn Inn, Arpeggio, and just about every restaurant in Skippack.
Go for a walk in the moonlight or for the more adventurous, try sledding or ice skating. Be sure to bring a Thermos of hot chocolate (maybe some Bailey's or Peppermint Schnapps to go with it). Green Lane Park is a good spot for this. They have great hills and a lighted outdoor skating area (free, but you need to bring your own skates). Don’t like the cold? Go for the drive anyway or try bowling instead at Earl-Bowl Lanes in Franconia.
Settle down by the fireplace with a bottle of wine, cheese and French bread. Go to The Grand Fromage in Skippack for the cheese; they have varieties from around the world. Swap back rubs by the fire.
Head to a bar with a pool table or dart board; challenge each other to a few games. Blue Dog Pub, Sumney Tavern, Molly Maguire's and Bone's Grille all in Lansdale are good choices. If a local band is playing, all the better. For more fun and excitement, head to Manayunk, Conshohocken, King of Prussia and of course Philadelphia.
Find an indoor farmer’s market (such as Reading Terminal Market) and load up on ingredients for a new dish you been wanting to try. Chef it up together when you get home.
Go to the local book store and browse the aisles with a tall latte from the coffee shop. Not a reader? Try an art gallery or museum. Take a train to get there if you can. Septa's R-5 can have you in Doylestown in 25 minutes or Philadelphia within 40 minutes. In Philly, the choices are endless. If you really want your sweetie to hold on tight, go for a daytime tour of Eastern State Penitentiary (eerie but fun).
Head to a local theater for a more romantic movie night than the mega-plexes. Doylestown, Ambler, Souderton, and East Greenville all have small old-fashioned theaters that only host 1-2 shows.
Window shop in one of the area's quaint historic towns. Our favorites would include Chestnut Hill, Skippack, Doylestown, New Hope, and Wayne.
Enjoy! And Happy Valentine's Day!
